As part of Résonance du son et de l’objet - La rencontre entre les Structures sonores Baschet et Taro Okamoto at Taro Okamoto Museum of Art Kawasaki, we organized an unusual concert where percussionists Sawako Yasue and Yu Koga played the sound sculptures by Bernard and François Baschet and my Marimba Ping-Pong table, joined by players in a table-tennis game.
Marimba Ping-Pong table is assembled with wooden bars of different length. Determined by where the ping-pong ball lands during play, the table emits a note from low to high like a marimba. Every bar has a contact microphone beneath, through which the sound is amplified. Participants can enjoy the resulting tune while playing the game.
