Stretching Robot01
- Stretching Robot01
- Material: foam board, motor, relay switch, sensor, nylon thread
- Year: 2009
- Place: Yotsuya Art Studium, Tokyo
The nested structure humanoid robot object makes use of a motor and relay-switch to repeatedly perform stretches at a laid-back pace. Robots, at their core, exist to continuously and efficiently help humans work, yet this work features a robot that is completely useless to humans, performing only simple stretching exercises. However, looking at it from the proposition of whether, to begin with, art itself is of any use to humans, this work represents a useless robot in the context of useless art; in this sense, too, there is a nested structure.
